Why Four Strokes?

I promise there's nothing cheeky behind it :)

If anyone knows me, they know how much I love four stroke (or dual sport) dirt bikes and motocross. In the mid-nineties, there was an insurgence of dirt bikes in Brooklyn and I was fortunate enough to be there during that era both riding along and owning my own bike. It was a wonderful time.

In 1997, while studying to become a teacher, I became less interested in teaching and more focused on embracing my love for photography.  When i was able to, i took advantage of the photography courses at my school and studied under Janine Coyne. Back then everything was shot in film!

After graduating, I was torn between working at a privately owned preschool, and pursuing photography in my spare time. I also began designing and event planing for my job and then eventually my friends and family. In 2005-06, I had the opportunity of planning my first destination wedding as well as producing the stationary. Shortly after that, i reserved the domain fourstrokesofbrooklyn.com as an homage to my love of four stroke bikes.

In the early days this site used to feature motorcycle themed t-shirts and lounge wear, designed by me, as well as greeting cards geared toward the biker community. However, as more and more clients began to hire me for custom work, the site took a new direction and became a portfolio for my invitations and design work.

FYI: The t-shirts were a play off of the four stroke name and were in fact VERY cheeky ;)  They may make a comeback in 2011.

Currently, i am the Events and Communication Manager for a local Non Profit, Pratt Area Community Council. Amazingly, I am fortunate to work for a company where i can incorporate my photography, design, and event planning talent.
